UN Tourism Reports Steady 2% Global Growth in International Arrivals for Q1

Global international tourism continued its upward trajectory during the first quarter, registering approximately 307 million international tourist arrivals worldwide. This represents a 2% increase compared to the same period, adding roughly 6 million travelers to cross-border networks. However, the World Tourism Barometer cautions that escalating geopolitical tensions and supply-side constraints have trimmed initial growth expectations down from a projected 3% to 4% baseline. Regional performances varied significantly: Europe expanded its footprint with a 4% rise in arrivals, Africa maintained steady momentum, and the Americas posted moderate gains led by Central America. Conversely, the Middle East suffered a temporary 14% contraction due to localized security disruptions. Experts emphasize that while consumers remain determined to travel, inflation and high transport costs are forcing travelers to seek value-driven options and shorter itineraries.
